Open Letter To Students Against Guns

By Earl P. Holt III

Despite all the rhetoric and disinformation following the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida, only TWO of the many proposals that have been floated would actually reduce the likelihood and severity of school shootings.

The first is to arm volunteer administrators and teachers in every school district in the land, so schools are no longer perceived as “soft targets” by aspiring mass murderers. This would dramatically reduce their perceived likelihood of success, and greatly reduce any hope of surviving such a rampage.

The other proposal is to more effectively secure the entrances and exits of school buildings, so anyone attempting to bring a weapon inside will be subject to a stop and search by an armed and trained guard. Metal Detectors are found at the entrances to most county courthouses throughout the land, and they have dramatically reduced incidents of gun violence in the nation’s courthouses.

In his first letter to the Corinthians, Saint Paul observed that “When I was a child, I spoke as a child…when I became a man, I put away childish things.” (1 Corinthians, 13:11.) You would do well to remember this insight when you organize against the Constitution’s Second Amendment.

The sad truth is, you are being used by ideologues who never allow a tragedy to go unexploited for their own political gain. The rights and principles enshrined in the Second Amendment are far more complex and nuanced than you have been led to believe by the Marxist gun-banners who encourage you.

For example, Professor Gary Kleck of Florida State University has spent his career studying violent crime: He estimates that each year in the U.S., between 2 million and 3 million violent felonies are thwarted by armed citizens who often need only to display a firearm to send their would-be attackers scurrying.

You might ask yourself why you‘ve never heard of such a thing: If you are honest, you will recognize that you’ve been brain-washed by the Corrupt Leftist Media and its ilk among leftist politicians and so-called “educators.” Nevertheless, here’s the citation: Gary Kleck. “Armed Resistance to Crime.” Volume 86, JOURNAL OF CRIMINAL LAW & CRIMINOLOGY, Issue 1, 1995.

Moreover, in the most comprehensive study in the history of criminology, an Economist and Legal Researcher used the most sophisticated methodology on the planet to study violent crime rates in all 3,054 U.S. Counties for 29 years (1977 to 2005.) To paraphrase, they concluded that Concealed Carry laws are the most cost-effective means of reducing violent crime ever studied by economists, including longer prison sentences and early childhood intervention.

In fact, so-called “Shall Issue” Concealed Carry laws have been singularly responsible for reducing violent crime rates (rape, robbery murder and aggravated assault) every year in the U.S. for the past 40 years, even while black and Hispanic populations have increased over this period. The possibility of being killed by their intended victims has prompted many among the criminal element to forego careers of violence.

As more states adopt “Shall Issue” Concealed Carry laws –- and there are now 42 such states –- violent crime rates have consistently declined in response. You might ask yourself why you’ve never heard of this fact, either, but here’s the citation: John Lott & David Mustard. “More Guns, Less Crime.” 3rd Ed., University of Chicago Press, 2010.

These facts have great applicability to the problem of school shootings. Those who recruit you to help disarm the American Public — by undermining support for the Second Amendment — have consistently and reflexively rejected the very measures that would effectively prevent or end most school shootings.

In fact, such people probably oppose any workable solutions to end school shootings because they have a vested interest in ensuring the carnage continues uninterrupted. They assume that if enough school shootings occur –- and the body count is sufficiently large — then they will eventually realize their 60-year ambitions of repealing the Second Amendment.

That would leave the U.S. civilian population as defenseless as Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was on February 14th, 2018…

As anyone with sense and objectivity will recognize, today’s school shooting (March 20th) at the Great Mills school in Maryland was thwarted only because an ARMED School Resource Officer was there shoot to death the aspiring mass murderer before he could harm a third victim.

This proves the claim, made above, that there are only two realistic proposals to reduce the likelihood and severity of school shootings, and one of them involves arming more school officials. It also demonstrates that those who oppose arming administrators and teachers have a vested interest in ensuring that the carnage continues unabated.
